Meet Zach Gordon also known as “BagTalkZach” a young entrepreneur behind BagTalk Talent Co. LLC. Born in raised in Atlanta, GA Zach moved away for college & graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, TN with a degree in music business. Not only is Zach focused on the music & sports management but he is also in the process of going to law school to further his education to specialize in Contract Management. Music, sports, and business has always been a big part of Zach’s life, and that all comes from his relationship with his dad. Zach’s father is a serial entrepreneur, but more importantly he is his biggest role model and has taught him more about being a businessman than anyone or anything else. Zach & his my dad are both die hard Miami Dolphins fans which inspired Zach to work with athletes and be involved in sports. We got to connect with Zach & ask him a few questions about his come up!
How Did You First Get Started In Your Career?
“ I got started in my career really in 2021 when I met Nashville rap artist HunnidFromThe6. I loved his sound and style and we locked in on my first management deal. From there I was able to build the foundations for a career for him, but more importantly it was a great introduction to the field, and an even better learning experience. Before that, I played bass guitar in a band in high school, Rayd. During my time in Rayd, I managed our finances, promotion, social media, booking, merchandise, distribution, and so much more. That experience gave me so much knowledge for how to work within the industry, but I knew I wanted to be bigger, better, and a force of nature within the music industry.”
As a Manager what are the top 3 things you do to keep your whole team happy?
“I love this question because it really allows me to express what makes me special and why I am a standout candidate for anyone looking for an artist manager that believes in getting shit done. First off, my biggest thing is communication. If there is a lack of communication, that turns into a lack of trust and that really is what makes a management deal legit. Trust between a manager and artist is essential to making the relationship work to its full potential. Second is work ethic. When I come to the table with my work ethic, I expect the same in return. My job as an artist manager is to make sure my clients are busy, and that comes from using my ability to hustle and bring the work ethic needed to keep them busy. Third is being a part of something bigger. The BagTalk Family is my everything. These are people who have trusted me with their careers, and they need to know that I care about them, their well being, their mental health, and their financial situations. My clients have a 24/7 connection with me where they can call me any minute, any day. I love the people I work with and knowing that they have a leader they can trust and rely on for anything, even if it isn’t their career, that goes a really long way.”
Describe one similarity & one difference in being the sport & music industry
“They are pretty different, but the same as well. I would say a solid similarity is the broad aspect of what I am trying to accomplish. Let’s take a rap artist on my team and an athlete on my team. For both of these clients, my first steps are branding, PR, developing a media presence, and establishing the consistent contact necessary to boost our business relationship. I care about the same initial things for both divisions of my clients, so that I would say that is the biggest similarity. There aren’t too many differences in the work I do for both athletes and artists, but mainly the mindsets I have whenever I meet with them. Athletes are my more professional clients, and a big part of that is because there is so much business involved because the majority of our business revolves around branding and sponsorships. Artists and artists environments allow me to chill and be more creative and artistic. I get to think creatively about how we are going to develop ourselves and promote ourselves.”
How did “BagTalk Talent Co. LLC” get started?
“BagTalk Talent Co. LLC was started because I’m an entrepreneur & this is what I want to do. Since I was young, I already knew what I wanted to do, and when the timing was right for me in 2021 I set off on my first entrepreneurial adventure. I signed my first artist HunnidFromThe6 & since then, I have worked with over 100 talents in some way around the country.”
What are some things we can expect from your in the near future?
“Right now, BagTalk Talent Co. is working on live shows. We currently have a show series in Nashville, TN called Live On The NorthSide that we do with my good friends Tom Maier, PunchMeInJay, and 808SpinZ. We also have an event at The 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA , and hope to finish the Summer with a few more shows in the Southeast. On the other hand of our business, we are boosting our athlete recruiting to gain my clients for NIL Sponsorships. We are working with many small, local businesses including streetwear brands, restaurants, and other businesses that want collegiate athlete sponsorships.”
